The Jim McLean Shield

The Club has introduced The Jim McLean Shield which will be awarded to a senior goalkeeper on an annual basis.
Jim McLean joined the Club in 2004 and was instrumental in setting up our Goalkeeper Academy in 2005. He provided dedicated training to goalkeepers of all ages, writing the Club’s original goalkeeping development plan and provided ‘masterclasses’ to team coaches so they could incorporate goalkeeping into their training sessions.
Jim left the Club in 2009 due to ill health, but returned in 2013 to assist in the running of the GKA, working tirelessly to ensure it’s success until his departure in 2018.
The Jim McLean Shield will recognise a goalkeeper who has not only performed well for their team but has also demonstrated:
- commitment
- has a desire to learn and improve
- works hard for themselves and their team
- has an unquestionable attitude
- helps and supports their fellow goalkeepers and teammates.
