Mental Health

An all too familiar story is being afraid to admit that we are struggling with our mental health. Fear of prejudice and judgement stops us from seeking the help we need and before we know it, we find ourselves on a downward spiral that can destroy families, friendships and even end lives.

Everyone at Musselburgh Windsor want to help ensure our players, coaches and parents feel comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing.

We recognise that mental health is vitally important as it influences how we think and feel about ourselves, and how we interpret events. It affects our capacity to learn and communicate, and our ability to cope with change and life events.

Our mental health is just as important as our physical health – the two go hand in hand – which is why the Club formed the Musselburgh Windsor Mental Health Working Group.

We have introduced Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) who are here to help you if you are having difficulty coping, and to support you if you are worried about someone else.

Our MHFA’s are trained to:

  • Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions
  • Provide mental health first aid to someone experiencing poor mental health or is in crisis.
  • Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive, confidential conversations, other than when it becomes apparent that escalation to emergency services is required.
  • Encourage and signpost people to seek professional support.
  • Proactively promote Mental Health to break down any associated stigma or discrimination.

All our coaches must attend the SFA Mental Health in Scottish Football course, and they know who our MHFAs are. If you need to speak to one of our MHFAs, they will point anyone who needs help in their direction.

Our MHFAs are not there to diagnose – they are not medically trained – but they will provide you with as much information as possible and signpost you to organisations who will be able to give you the help you need.

If you do need to speak to one of our MHFAs, please email us at MHFA@musselburghwindsorfc.co.uk. Any and all discussions will remain strictly private and confidential.
